IN-GAME AND UI SOUND DESIGN
All of my services are holistic. They include my strategy, expertise, and abilities – not just for one aspect of your video game, but for ALL aspects. I’m a well-seasoned composer and mixing engineer, who has worked on Indie games such as ALO and Radical Racers, and I own a recording studio. Other than video games, I’ve also done feature films with production companies based in Los Angeles, UK and Europe. Yes, I’m that weird unicorn you’ve been looking for 😉
My team and I have a deep understanding of the dynamics involved in the developing process, the iterative process, player experience, and we have a great focus on crafting products with a player-centric experience in mind.
We have the ability to work closely with your team and be a productive part of it. We’ve set a high standard for communication within the production pipeline – and at all points of the project.
Below is a more detailed description of my services.
Note: It is ABSOLUTELY imperative you fill out an application TODAY if you want to work with me. That’s my current waiting list, so please don’t be a last-minute Suzy. The clients who book out ahead are so much more prepared than those who try to squeeze something in last minute.
Video Game Music Soundtrack
This is perfect if you’re looking for a soundtrack that will complement and perfectly match your game scope and aesthetics.
I work alongside my expert team to compose the music in blocks that can vary in length and be connected in any order so the music adapts itself to the game.
Each musical block has a different function:
- Intro – sets the mood for the gameplay that’s about to occur.
- Loop – A short, repeatable section of music which can be played over and over until the gameplay changes.
- Transition – connecting music (ie. music that accompanies a cut scene that aims to maintain the player’s interest).
- Stinger – short music cue that represents an important event in the game.
- Tag – a short ending which signals the conclusion of a level or section.
Each block will have multiple layers, designed to best fit the audio resource budget planned:
- Layer 1 Low Intensity
- Layer 2 Medium Intensity
- Layer 3 High Intensity
- Layer 4…etc
This will make the music even more adaptive so it fits the interactivity of the gameplay.
We prefer to use Middleware software to implement how the music is triggered and reacts within the game. We’re also open to delivering the music assets ready to import into the game engine the developers are using (Unity, Unreal, etc) to fit all budgets.
We’ll adjust our approach to composition depending on the scope of your project to best fit your target – both from a musical stand point and from a technological one, depending on your choices about what platform will run your game.
If the music gets recorded, our professional orchestrators will prepare the score, as well as prepare the parts for the recording session.
We’ve worked with the best studios both in the US and Europe. The contractor on our team will hire pro studio musicians, vocalists, and audio engineers, as well as coordinating with the composer and orchestrator, and booking flights and hotel rooms, if needed.
We are equipped with a system that will:
- Send phone notifications when a new cue is uploaded.
- Get two versions of each cue.
- Receive the entire soundtrack at least two weeks before the deadline.
We will conduct regular meetings with the team and briefings.
Audio and Music Debugging
We will be testing the game during the various stages of development to catch any music/audio bugs or mistakes.
We will deliver an Original Score that integrates smoothly within the game and that provides the right feedback to the Player based on his /her decisions.
A score that emotively supports to the story throughout the entire game.
Documentation will be created step by step by the composer from the early stage to the very last review and sent to the team for reference & review.
The document includes the Audio/Music Design Document and asset list with all the details about the music cues composed and game parameters used inside the Middleware.
Clients work with us anywhere from 4-24 weeks and the price for a video game soundtrack starts around $5k.
Pre-requisites:
- Client is open to communicating frequently and quickly to inform the composer about any changes in the design of the video game.
- Client is willing to provide feedback as soon as possible about all iterations of the Music / Sound Design created through the project development time span.
Video Game Audio Mix
We provide mixing and mastering for all Music and Sound Design assets ready to be imported in the Middleware / Game Engine.
We will build the necessary mix and busses routing within the Middleware.
We’ll take care of the balance and spacialization of Music / Sound Design and Dialogues and be sure they hit the appropriate loudness target.
We deliver:
- Mix and master of all the In-Game Audio assets.
- Assets stemming.
- Mix / busses set-up into the Middleware / Engine in stereo, 5.1 and 3D audio [to be decided].
I usually work with clients for 6-8 weeks depending on the project and prices start at around $4k.
Pre-requisites:
- Client provides access to the Asset list (if created by a third party).
- Client delivers Audio Assets with accurate versioning and that follows the naming convention found in the Asset List.
- Client is willing to provide feedback as soon as possible about all mix versions of the Music / Sound Design through the project development time span.
Video Game Sound Design
My team and I will work together with the design and animation team to create rich audio that fits the virtual experience being developed.
We’ll create several assets that match the game aesthetics and the player’s choices and moves.
We’ll polish each sound effect to avoid collision with the music soundtrack and with what’s taking place in the game.
We produce all Sound Design assets that are needed in the game.
The assets will be fully documented in the asset list for reference and versioning control.
During the video game Sound Design process, we will work together with the composer to nail down the soundtrack of the game. If the game has voice-acting, it’s going to be our job to make sure it fits well with the game and is implemented correctly.
Finally, we’ll test the audio elements as they’re added into the Middleware or the game’s engine, to ensure they work as intended.
We’ll deliver:
- Sound Design asset for all main characters in the game.
- Foley assets for all main characters in the game.
- Voices (without dialogue) Sound Design, including creature, characters, enemies, etc.
- All in game ambiences.
- All weapon sounds.
Typically we work together for 4 to 16 weeks and prices start around $3k.
Pre-requisites:
- Client provides access to the Asset list (if created by a third party).
- Client is willing to provide feedback as soon as possible about all iterations of the Sound Design through the project development time span.
- Client provides the animation where sound design must synched to character movements.
Disclaimers
I have plenty of references I’m happy to provide, should we get to that point in our budding relationship!
I will treat your video game as if it’s my own, and so that means – I will not work with just anyone.
I have a basic application form I require to help save you and I both the time, if we’re not a good fit. Because let me tell you, when we are – magic happens!
